Ipe

Ipe is a beautiful hardwood. This deck project was a deck replacement and expansion. There was a small deck along the pool that was 4″ x 20′. The newest deck edition section has the umbrella on it. We added it one year after we built the main deck. Ipe will outlast redwood and resists dry rot and insects just as well if not better than redwood. On this 1000 sq ft 5/4″ x 6″ Ipe deck installed flashing onto the deck joists before we installed the deck boards. This keeps water from penetrating the tops of the deck joists and resist dry rot. The deck boards were predrilled and screwed down with 3″ stainless steel. The railing is completely Ipe. this railing has a milled top cap that is rounded.
